When you display a vector layer for the first time, ENVI creates several quadtree files. A quadtree is a tree-like data structure that makes it efficient to search, manage, and display vector data at different zoom levels. ENVI writes quadtree files in the directory specified by the Auxiliary File Directory preference.

Shapefiles

ENVI creates the following quadtree files when displaying a shapefile for the first time. The rootname is the same name as the input vector file.

  • rootname.eq1
  • rootname.ed1
  • rootname.ebb
  • rootname.shp.qtr

ENVI Vector File (EVF) Format

ENVI creates the following quadtree files when displaying vector files in EVF format for the first time:

  • rootname.evf.tsl
  • rootname.evf.qtr
